This is probably true. But please don't get me wrong: I love Nasm. It's just that once you're used to drive a Mercedes it becomes somewhat difficult to switch to an ... Opel - for no reason. >>> the Spec should be updated to allow at least all open-source assemblers >>> available for DOS. >> Not really... Licenses differ and NASM _is_ more free than JWASM. >> It is also bad to use too many different compilers / assemblers. > > Tell that to the MASM crowd. (Who will likely send you back to the NASM > crowd, though.) Please note that Masm is the original, it closely implements the syntax which was suggested by the cpu manufacturer - Intel. The Nasm/Fasm/Yasm/Rosasm variants implement something which probably works as well, and one can't prevent them from calling their syntax assembly because this language isn't standardized like C is ... but it's fairly clear that these funny dialects contributed a lot to the x86 assembly syntax mess, with Nasm having the major responsibility as being the one which arrived first. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Freedos-devel mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-devel
