Hi! I hope you can forward the details :-) > Hi, I'm currently trying to create a dosemu RPM package for Fedora.
Thanks! > problem seems to be with including a binary freedos image, > does anyone know if compilation from linux is even possible, > or with a free compiler? Here is the issue: Crosscompiling can be tricky so it is much easier to simply compile inside an existing version of dosemu and freedos :-) > Seems like FreeDOS can be built with Watcom C and Borland C > Compiler only, both of which are non-free. I do not remember who said Watcom C but things which needed Borland C now often compile with the free-from-Borland-museum Turbo C and in addition we now often use OpenWatcom which is a free open source compiler based on released Watcom code :-) You should compile with Watcom C for DOS, but the Windows version might do, too. I never tried with the Linux version. I believe Jeremy Davis had a cronjob which compiled FreeDOS using OpenWatcom for Linux long ago... > Building with dev86's bcc is most likely not possible now. That does indeed sound a bit exotic. Note that "userland" of FreeDOS contains quite a few DJGPP (GNU C for DOS) based apps. > Do you think DOSEmu package would actually be usable without > the FreeDOS image shipped? Please do update the FreeDOS install in DOSEMU as well when you update the DOSEMU package :-). You can find many updated and precompiled apps on http://rugxulo.googlepages.com/ and http://www.viste-family.net/mateusz/fdupdate/ as well as the www.freedos.org/freedos/software/ software list, in particular www.freedos.org/cgi-bin/lsm.cgi?mode=dir&dir=base In general, Rugxulo might be a bit newer than FDUPDATE but FDUPDATE has the more nicely packaged file. Rugxulo simply has a 2.88 MB floppy (or up to 3 of 1.44 MB each) while you can get ZIP files, one per app, from FDUPDATE. Just unzip them into a "c:freedos" or similar directory and a directory tree will be fill with the apps, docs and extra files ;-). > ask whether anyone's willing to help switching to free build > framework (dev86) and whether there are any known technical > difficulties with it? Yes - OpenWatcom is already free and I doubt that dev86 comes with a very classic 16/32 bit DOS apps" oriented C library...?
