As CD-ROMs are controlled by what are essentially SCSI packets over an ATA(IDE) interface, using ASPI makes a convenient method to separate them allowing me to use a SCSI card or existing CD driver for testing.
Jeremy
Quite smart thinking to split up the driver into an interface component and a cdrom component (IF the developer has any SCSI controller + cdrom). That way both components can be tested individually.
1: known SCSI driver (like ASPI8DOS.SYS) + development cdrom driver
2: development ASPI driver + known CDROM driver, like ASPICD.SYS
I found that Jason Hood's CD2ISO program is quite strict about a proper cdrom driver, so anyone interested in working on cdrom drivers might want to use it to see if the cdrom you use is correctly read.
The program reads blocks instead of files.
It's in the SHSUCDX v3.00 package, by Jason Hood. http://www.geocities.com/jadoxa/shsucdx/index.html
Jim, perfect time to announce SHSUCDX! (but contact Jason first, he knows the development specifics/features)
