Hi!. I just got another email from Validity Inc. Here is what I got:

>> SLED 11 SP1 is available this year for VFS451 & VFS471 on certain HP
notebooks.
>>
>> We're working on our own Linux driver for SLED, Ubuntu & Fedora and
we plan to make it available by April next year.
>>
>> It will support VFS301, 5011, 5111 and 5131 in addition to VFS451,
471 & 491.
>>

So let's see. It really seems that is a truthful Email. On the other
hand, Validity announced last year a driver for VFS101 on December 2010
that was never released.

So would this work with the APC one sold as a USB device? Using the same
guts it would seem? When I run lsusb I get:

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 08ff:5731 AuthenTec, Inc. AES3500 TruePrint Sensor

It would seem there is an ftp site for this:

ftp://ftp.apc.com/apc/public/software/windows/xp/biopod/

However, after gleaning the .inf files (here and on the supplied CD) it may
require the driver supplied from the OmniPass install CD-Rom

The bottom of the ?biopod,? as they refer to it, has what looks to be a
model number:

BIOPODMP4

?I am unsure as to how it may be different.

Other recommendations have been to go to omnipass's website
(www.softexinc.com), go to downloads, trial version. chose omnipass client
edition (x32 or x64 ...

The Bug Tracker doesn?t appear to be working

http://projects.reactivated.net/fprint/bugs/index.php?do=details
<http://projects.reactivated.net/fprint/bugs/index.php?do=details&task_id=10
> &task_id=10

I haven?t seen anything to indicate x86_64 support either. I?m running
kernel 2.6.38.4-desktop-1mnb2 in Mandriva Cooker if it makes any difference.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Hi Rafael,

I have this device too. What Tobias Wolf did, AFAIK, was to reassemble
the AES 4000 driver, change the image dimension, and compile it as a
AES 3500 driver. Which hadn't gone so far as a working driver. I don't
think there were anyone working on the devices thereafter.

I'm looking to work on this, though with my shallow experience in
driver development, you should not expect too much from me. Anyway, if
you could help, maybe we can sort this out?

I'm trying to get a Windows driver, XP specifically, so we could sniff
the USB in Windows first. Do you have a Windows driver? Thanks.

Hi Chris,

USB device is what we've worked this driver on, so it sure works. As
far as I can tell, fingerprint devices are almost all usb based,
regardless of built-in or peripheral devices.

Though, it's not good yet. Only 60% or so could successfully match,
after some params tune.

Best,
