Nowadays I recommend to let udev do that:
# echo 'KERNEL=="js*" RUN+="/usr/local/sbin/jscal.sh"' >> \
/etc/udev/rules.d/91-local.rules
... whereby my /usr/local/sbin/jscal.sh sets the calibration
values from "jscal -p". This way it calibrates the js whenever
Linux recognizes the js, that's at startup and whenever the js
is plugged in.
