yep, that fixed it, rolling back makes it not crush the ram and swap on every system startup, which of course leads to the other problem, that now terminology won't start. If it's not one problem, it's another.
terminology starts as root just fine, but refuses to start a window as a regular user. And if efl 1.12 is that broken, why is it even available?!
