I re-installed in the following order:

Eina
Eet
Evas
Ecore
Embryo
Edje
Efreet
E_Dbus
Eeze
Eio
EPdf
Emotion
EThumbD
Elementary
EmPrint
E
EPhoto

There appeared only one installation problem, which exists since I try
the trunk. E itself only compiles without illume support because making
the dicts in 'keyboards' takes forever. 5 make's running of which only
the 'make all' actually does something (loops forever) at 100% CPU time.
Have no knowledge in autotools. If you want me to debug this, please
help out.

Though, E runs mostly fine now. Interestingly, the old snapshot seemed
to stay dominant over the trunk version. After the clean-up I now see
dialogs I haven't seen yet. Possibly the snapshot should be taken from
the website.

Another main herd of problems seems to be old themes. Raster, don't take
it personally, I never liked your style ^_^ That's one of the main
reasons why I didn't use E before 17 (foamy, rusty clouds, golden
script on greyish ground, etc.) The silky theme for E17 is far more
reasonable, but I never liked b/w-themes, and I dislike these 3Dish
shapes and the arrows on top of tab names. That's why I was very happy
to find the Japan theme. However, it seems to be the culprit for many
of the problems we thought the efreet cache is the culprit. The
analogous clock was missing, the gadget bar looked half empty, some
elements didn't seem to do anything, and text was shot. Seems that
themes have a far too uncontrolled impact on E. Can they hack E?

Things I'd like to know about:

- How do I install the themes in the THEMES folder?

Changed things I recognize:

- I am missing the previously available efm entry in the ibar app list.

Things that still annoy me:

- often different actions are chained to same configuration like,
  as said, mouse or mouse+window, or the effect for wallpaper change and
  workspace switch, etc.
- How to turn off the bouncing and the transparency of windows
- Efm windows still don't get re-opened at re-login, though other tools
  do, no matter what config I choose
- EPhoto doesn't appear in the ibar appp list, and it still can't use
  ethumb:

ERR<19801>:ethumb_client Ethumb_Client.c:213
 __dbus_callback_check_and_init()
 Ethumb_Client.c:494:_ethumb_client_start_server_cb() callback without
 message arguments!
ERR<19801>:ethumb_client Ethumb_Client.c:218
 __dbus_callback_check_and_init()
Ethumb_Client.c:494:_ethumb_client_start_server_cb() an error was
 reported by server: name="org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown",
 message="The name org.enlightenment.Ethumb was not provided by
 any .service files"
ERR<19801>:ethumb_client Ethumb_Client.c:531
 _ethumb_client_start_server_cb() failed to start Ethumbd DBus service
 by its name.

Is EThumbD to be started before E from xinitrc?

That's enough for now, and...

cudos to all involved! Though E17 is still a rough product, I wasn't so
convinced of something else the last several years or so ^^

Best wishes,
Dennis Heuer <[email protected]>
