what he said. everything arguing over root is legacy. it is not something de's WANT to support. i made the move years ago with e17. you cant catch such rendering as rendering to root is destructive and produces just final output. the way drawing works in things like x11, or windows and other os's is destructive. you can't catch things and manage/layer them. the way this is dome is either via creating actual windows that then have transparency of their own - root-wail doesnt do this. conky does.
