Hello,

to make it short: Has anybody seen segmentation faults out of nothing
when running Enlightenment DR16 under Xorg 6.9.0 ?

I did already report this issue for Xorg. See also
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6359
There can also be found some more detailed debugging information.

To give a short description here: The Xserver (nothing special, just
VESA) crashes with a segmentation fault without any special reason
in junction with selected applications. The latest of these applications
I discovered to be problematic is gvim. When it is started then X
crashes within 5 minutes - and this without typing anything into
the editor and not even having the cursor focus on it.

Usually I'm using the Gnome desktop with Enlightenment (DR16).
I tried also KDE with Enlightenment and there is the same problem.
With other window managers such as metacity or kdewm I've not yet seen
this problem.

Yesterday I tried the nice Enlightenment DR17 and there the problem
does also not appear (at least for the tests I made).

So the problem seems to be really dedicated to DR16 (at least versions
0.16.8.1 and 0.16.8.2). Other versions of X I have not tried so far.

This rises some more or less rhetorical questions:
 - Can this be a bug in DR16? And if yes, can it cause a segmentation
   fault of the X server?
 - In case it is a bug of Xorg 6.9.0, why does it become "effective"
   only with DR16?
 - What makes some applications so special that they trigger the
   crash?

If anybody experienced the same problems or got some idea what can be
the root cause, I appreciate any input.

Thanks a lot,
Mario

PS: My Linux distribution is Mandriva 2006.0. But I think this does not
matter.
