If there is a segmentation fault with the X server, then it is an X
bug. While the window manager has some special responsibilities, it is
still just an X client and the X server should properly error check
the requests and handle errors appropriately.

Apparently DR16 triggers the case of the bug. Are you using the
compositing manager built in to DR16? Maybe that is triggering a bug
in the Composite or Render extensions.
