This has been bugging me for quite a while (years). I have a bunch of
shortcut keys, part of which are multimedia keys (monitor off, vol up, vol
down, www). When I exit enlightenment and restart X, the changes to these
keys are *very* often lost. In fact I have not come up with a reliable way
to save them.

I _feels_ like the problem is worse with 16.6 than 16.5, but it's likely
just an illusion. Or an artifact of upgrading to fedora at the same time.

Few years back I brought the issue up on this list. It was suggested (by
whom - I forget) I should use e16keyedit instead of legacy E-conf tool. I've
been using both, but it makes no difference. In fact, I believe both use the
same method to save the configuration (calling E "save_config" ipc command;
e16keyedit/viewer.c, line 329).

It seems to be E itself that fails to save the config. E itself is far too
complicated for me to comprehend, but I'm thinking of patching e16keyconf to
save the key map elsewhere so it can be restored if lost. Which of course
would not be the Right Solution.

Also, if the configuration includes ; chars (for example as part of a
shortcut key command to execute), E fails to start due to parsing error. If
the conf includes " chars, they always are lost after logout/start E.

-- v --

[1] Sidenote: After 16.5->16.6 + ->fedora upgrade, focus has worked a tad
    worse as well: when I switch virtual desktops with a shortcut key, the
    window under mouse doesn't always get focus.
