Best of luck. Keep playing with things and try the latest NV drivers and see if that helps.
Well, I'm using the nvidia GeForce4 (generic) drivers, I believe.
I also opened my machine and noticed that I had my soundcard bearing down on the
heatsink/fan of my vidcard. I also noticed dust, and lots of it. So I rectified that. But
who knows....
I still think the problem is software related, as in the drivers, but why would the raster problems persist
even after I end the Xsession? See, that's what made me think that the issue could be heat-related.
Unless Mandrake uses X resources of some sort to generate the command line video...or if it's the Nvidia drivers that are still loaded that are doing it.
So, I agree with everyone's estimation of Mandrake quality - it blows. But I tried RedHat 9 and the customizations to common interfaces and applications drove me nearly mad. I fully intend to go Connectiva or Suse or SOMETHING without a plethora of dumbed-down interfaces. But for the time being I have next to no time for configuring a more powerful distro.
Thanks guys!
