Well it is my own, so I am not sure what that counts for, and I could certainly could put bzip2 back into the base system though it runs against project goals.
Of the 78 source archives I need from the internet, 31 are GZ and 46 are XZ (I have not counted but suspect many are available in both), while elfutils is the only one exclusively in bzip2. There was a day when it was mostly GZ with a smattering of bzip2, but it looks to me like the GNU folks decided to favor XZ a few years ago. Something else on my mind was to coax a GZ or XZ from git, though it looks like that is a Github feature rather than a git one, and I do not see it on the sourceware.org git pages. Again, thank you for any consideration and all polite conversation. I know that these topics can devolve quickly. On Wed, Aug 13, 2025, at 5:21 PM, Frank Ch.
