Note that a new DWARF5 languge code for DW_LANG_C_plus_plus_23 was added: https://dwarfstd.org/issues/240616.1.html and several others were added just last month https://dwarfstd.org/languages.html But you are right we could just adopt the proposed DWARF6 DW_AT_language_name/version attributes, which is more flexible. Question is if we think they are already "stable". https://dwarfstd.org/languages-v6.html says "The information on this page is part of the Draft of DWARF Version 6 and is subject to change."
