I think it does crash sometimes, but not very often. Which is nice.
Actually the free 3D programs I find in Ubuntu crash the r300 driver
fairly more often...

Oh, it seems I forgot to mention I'm on AMD64 (and running the AMD64
version of UT2k4). Silly me.

Maybe I was being a bit unclear. The textures as such are not corrupted,
they're just rendered in a somehow corrupt fashion. The location of the
corruption also changes. See http://mjr.iki.fi/ut2004/ for some sample
screenshots of Arctic Stronghold. I took them using the current git
(master branch) libdrm and mesa (libGL & friends plus r300_dri.so). One
of them shows the mostly ok snow (some blue artifacts...) and rock,
while others concentrate on the highly problematic bases.

To be sure I got it right, this is how I tried the git driver version
(/opt/drm is where I stashed the git libdrm after compilation):

export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/home/mjr/src/git/mesa/lib64
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/drm/lib:/home/mjr/src/git/mesa/lib64
./ut2004

I'll be co-operative if there's something further to try; thanks :)
