I haven't enabled any debugging other then running glxgears with LIBGL_DEBUG to see if it wasn't finding the r300_dri.so.

Are you loading agpgart before drm driver ? Did you enable debugging in the drm driver as README says ? (If so this would slow everything down..
I usually don't turn it on, the drm driver have not changed in a while).
