The patch does have a few issues. Firstly it doesn't apply cleanly to the current trunk so there'll be a bit of work wiggling it in.

I noticed that, but I also noticed something else. It seems that trunk has some regressions [or lack of updating, as well the case may be] in a few of the mesa source files. Doing a comparison between trunk and xfree head reveals about 4 or 5 (maybe more? I can't remember the exact number) mesa source files whose version goes from 4.X->3.X. I noticed this when I was trying to generate a patch to add the latest mesa+dri to a XFree86 snapshot tree. Perhaps that might, in some small way, be contributing to the failed hunks?
Here's the list of reversions (either from 4.x to 3.x or from a later 4.x to an earlier 4.x). I don't think the files in src/X matter, but t_context.c and t_imm_dlist.c sure should. IMHO, we should update the trunk to whatever version of the dlist code has Brian's recent dlist memory management changes.
Is there any chance that we'll get Mesa 5.2 anytime soon? Then we could just suck everything over and be happy. :)
