Yup that killed it.  I still had one unresolved reference to xf86strncat, 
but it still loaded up and went anyway.  I did notice that rendering has 
slowed down on the r200 driver by a magnitude of about 5 times.  This of 
course isn't a very accurate measure purely based of glxgears frame rates, 
but it does make me raise an eyebrow.  I will have to poke around to see 
what else I can see.
