Does gears, isosurf (default) run?
But isosurf (reflect), ipers, texdown etc (with textures/light) hang your 
machine?

Mine dual Athlon with HIGHMEM and r200 does.
Read the threads about mesa-4-1.

I'll try my current 2.5.47-mm1 kernel without HIGHMEM, too.

APIC didn't change anything for me.
