Ok. So it works for some, and not for others. What might I do to help track this down? Given the behavior (complete lockup), I'm not sure anything will even get written to the logs. (I suppose serial console might be worth a shot to get the oops msg if that's the case). It seems as if interrupts are hopelessly blocked, so magic sysrq is not helpful, and any other output would also not see the light of day... Is there perhaps some other kernel options that conflict with himem that I may have set? I've seen mention of apic issues lately, but as I understand it that is required on smp systems.
