I tried demo Quake3 (which has basically the same engine as RCTW) and I've seen this too. Mostly one of this four case happens: - the game locks up immediately after jumping from the menu to the game - the game locks up when there seems to be a hdd activity (a texture to be loaded or so) - the game freezes up in complex scene. - the game engine freezes after changing some game-system-gfx attributes (for example set_recomended in the game system menu) [ the game restarts and then freezes while loading game files - it may be the same as case 1) ] Both games are always screaming the last played sound sample (looped). Sometime the monitor goes off (like dpms off, the monitor power led turns from green to yellow) immediately after crash. Occasionaly the whole screen is filled some small pattern but mostly I see "frozen" game picture. The computer stays responsive to alt-sysrq-u, alt-sysrq-b and sometimes (but not always) it's even really alive (so I can ssh back). However trying to restart X freezes the machine definitely. I may provide more details if needed just tell me.
