Dear Members:

Another review regarding Konocti....delete if not interested...

The drive from San Jose was quite nice until I hit the City (S.F.) where
the traffic was bumper to bumper on hwy. 280 before entering the
city....luckily Linda Sullivan needed a favor which took me around all the
traffic (would have added another 45 minutes had I traveled the way I
would have gone..ugh..) and straight to her home...after meeting the new
baby (an adorable German Shepherd pup) and saying hi to an old school mate
from elementary days (Jerry, Lindas husband) I proceeded through a
short-cut and on to the Golden Gate Bridge....what a lovely day...loads of
tourists walking the Gate...sailboats everywhere on the bay...headed North
and ran into traffic again on hwy. 101 going past San Rafael, Petaluma,
Novato, Santa Rosa and finally away from it approaching Geyersville....the
old Camaro was running fine until I turned off on hwy 175 at
Hopland....the uphill winding road really tested the cars almost 10 year
old cooling system but the guardians kept with me making sure I made it
to Konocti....it was a relief to see hwy. 29 at the bottom of hwy. 175
knowing how close I was to Konocti...from there it was a cutover to Soda
Bay Road...winding down to Konocti and the vista of Clear Lake..just
beautiful..soon I would be there...meet up with the club members who were
able to attend....and listen to our friends the Doobies Brothers play and
play.....after checking in at the reservation desk at the Konocti Resort
Lodge who did I see in the lobby of the lodge but Keith Knudsen....he
stopped by to get something in one of the shops (I introduced myself by
name though he seemed to recognize my face anyway) and we exchanged hellos
and a few words and went our separate ways.... got back into the
car...drove over to the box office to drop off Linda Sullivans tickets
for her friends since she couldnt go to the concert, picked up the after
show passes I had arranged for the club members, drove to my room not
without some excitement since my car was extremely over heated and decided
to die on me...but with quick thinking put the trans. into neutral, and
luckily it started again ...parked the pain in the butt and let it rest
for the evening....missed Chris BBQ but Chris and Nick were nice enough
to stop by, bring up from my car the cooler with miscellaneous items
contained up to the third floor where I was staying and visited for
awhile before the show started....so I chilled out some more after they
left while waiting for my sister to arrive from her drive around the
lake....once we decided we were prepared for the concert we left and
joined the crowd enjoying Creedence Clearwater Revival already on
stage...what a great show they put on...much reminiscing going on in the
crowd...the men in the crowd really were getting into this band...lots of
head bobbing and the woman behind us screaming their heads off...I thought
all right...just wait until the Doobs get on stage....heh, heh...during
intermission we walked around....got in line to buy a teeshirt...there are
NEW Doobie ts ($25 each)....I bought the one that has the Chevy V emblem
in the front, says Doobie Brothers in a yellowish metallic puffy lettering
across the front... the listing of cities the Doobies will perform2001
and Beyond on the back with a red shadow of an eagle behind the writing
on a black tee shirt....stopped and got some more water and while waiting
in line became anxious because the loud speakers were playing that intro.
we have become accustomed to...motorcycles!!! We quickly proceeded to our
seats....the crowd was still standing because of intermission so for the
first song most people were on their feet.....I thought... I dont believe
it...are these over 40s going to stand for the whole
show????....well...they sat down but I didnt...so as a dedicated fan club
member I made sure there was some dancing and singing and yelling after
the numbers going on...I mean ...someone had to do it for you
all!!!!....Nick eluded to some of the songs in a previous post and yes the
guys did do 4 new songs off Sibling Rivalry which were well received by
the crowd....oh...for you airband enthusiasts Chris S. took care of the
drums and I had to do a little guitar work...yeah...we all had a blast!!
The Doobs were fantastic!! Not to forget those of you who want to know
that the guys wore...at first John and Pat had coats on but as they got
cooking the coats were removed....John had a sleeveless black t-shirt on
with black pants and boots, Pat wore a light yellow Hawaiian shirt, hair
loosely pulled back in a ponytail steaming down to his waist, black pants
(cant remember the shoes), Skylark in his usual tanktop and black pants,
Tommy had on a shiny black, brown and silver pullover shirt, black pants
and boots, and I think Mark wore a charcoal colored loose fitting top,
black pants.....Big Mike had his hair pulled back into a braided ponytail
(hard to see what his t-shirt had on it) but had a denim jacket on after
the show, Keith wasnt wearing a hat for a change ....you should have seen
the great drum solo they did... OUTSTANDING!!....think Guy had on a black
sleeveless t-shirt....Mark was fantastic especially on one of the new
numbers.... the guitar work was fantastic by all guitarists....Pat and
Johns new number was ever so sweet...all the guys were in excellent
voice....what can I say...except thank you Doobie Brothers for yet another
wonderful performance.

After the encore (two songs), people filed out and we eventually met up
with the club members at the Havens Clubhouse for an after show
gathering. It seemed many people were there for the CUR band but only one
of their members came by.. I think he was the bass player and original
member...someone out there knows who this is....he came over to the
clubhouse with John Mc Fee....John was very nice and chatted with our club
member Papa Smurf. Later Big Mike arrived and Papa Smurf had a chance
to talk with him also. Of course Chris and Nick spoke with the Doobs too
and I merely stood in the background and smiled at them...there were
people wanting the guys attention and I just sort of hung out with the
club members and left the guys alone....John seemed fine where as Big Mike
looked tired. However, many thanks to Big Mike and John for coming over
to the club house for the meet and greet though tired and knowing they had
a long bus ride ahead to Vegas.

It was great to meet club members Mark and Patsy Hayes (the smurfs)...what
a nice couple...and friends Joe Palochio and Mona...glad to meet you all
and thanks for being such wonderful people in all that you do for others.
Mark does resemble Papa Smurf but is in much better shape, taller and not
blue.

Thanks Chris and Nick for being such wonderful friends....heres to 2002
....hope we get the chance to do it next year...theyre the best!
Sorry to miss you Debbie and Mike if you were in attendance...and Linda
you gotta schedule your conferences better so you can attend Konocti next
year.

Thanks to Kathy Nelson, Cris Simmons, and Ed Ryan for helping set-up the
meet and greet. We all really appreciated the opportunity to chat with the
guys....and again many thanks to all the Doobs for a wonderful show.....I
know you saw us out there enjoying the heck out of ourselves grooving to
your tunes....keep it going.... we love you!

Okay fan club members....your turn to enjoy the tunes and let us all know
about your adventures.
