Hi Scott,I was wondering if draft-grubto-dnsop-dns-out-of-protocol-signalling <https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-grubto-dnsop-dns-out-of-protocol-signalling-03.html> would be relevant for this work party as well. The document seeks to specify a method for DNS servers to signal programs outside of the server software, and which are not necessarily involved with the DNS protocol, about conditions that can arise within the server. It is currently expired, but we are planning to pick it up again.
Some of those conditions from the draft that I think could be of interest for sharing are for example:
* 3.7. A zone is (about to) expire <https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-grubto-dnsop-dns-out-of-protocol-signalling-03.html#name-a-zone-is-about-to-expire> * 3.8. DNSSEC signatures are (about to) expire <https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-grubto-dnsop-dns-out-of-protocol-signalling-03.html#name-dnssec-signatures-are-about> * 3.9. Query rate is exceeding a threshold <https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-grubto-dnsop-dns-out-of-protocol-signalling-03.html#name-query-rate-is-exceeding-a-t> * 3.10. Query rate increase is exceeding a threshold <https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-grubto-dnsop-dns-out-of-protocol-signalling-03.html#name-query-rate-increase-is-exce> * 3.11. Extended DNS Error conditions <https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-grubto-dnsop-dns-out-of-protocol-signalling-03.html#name-extended-dns-error-conditio>I will join the Automated Information Sharing meeting coming Wednesday, so maybe there is room to discuss it there.

I'd like to see if any recursive resolver or authoritative name server operators are interested in identifying, implementing, and testing automated technologies that allow us to share operational data in near real time. The idea is to gain early awareness of anomalies, changes in server status, changes in zone status, etc. with a goal of improving resolution resilience by addressing issues quickly. Is anyone interested? Please let me know and we'll figure out how to proceed.
