Hi Paul, all,

I'm starting a new thread so as not to interfere with the WG recharter discussion.

The draft for multi-qtypes has a long history, Ray can tell more about this. During its course, there were competing or overlapping drafts of the idea, and the WG discussions did not result in one or more drafts being adopted as a WG document.

In 2023, there was interest in the multi-qtype draft from the DNSSD WG, as they were considering a solution with QDCOUNT=2, which conflicted with the DNSOP document QDCOUNT=1. Tim, our DNSOP co-chair, sent an email to the mailing list to inform the DNSOP WG that DNSSD was considering adopting multi-qtype as a WG document, see https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/dnsop/lvSuoh_WaHeZSuZPkhX8dPwaz-8/.

The chairs of the DNSSD and DNSOP WGs will keep both WGs informed of the progress of the document and ensure that it is also discussed in the DNSOP working group (mailing list) before a WGLC is issued in the DNSSD working group.

Best,

-- Benno
