Apologies for the long delay.
In January, I attempted to fix @medmunds annotation on
https://github.com/django/django/pull/18421#pullrequestreview-2624473570
This unfortunately caused many tests to fail, and I could not figure out a
way to get them working again.
Since most of these annotations are there to allow developers to use the
then deprecated configuration options together with the new ones, we might
need a different approach on this. If we can agree to just raise an
exception, if both the old and new configuration options are used
together, then this ticket should be fixable easily.
Unfortunately, my changes in January worsened the situation. Until then,
at least all unit tests were passing, but now I am not sure how to fix
them, and due to other tasks at work, I somehow lost the overview of my
changes.
I could roll back to that previous commit and start over again. Please let
me know if I shall proceed or to leave this pull request to someone else.
