The opposite should be true. If this is a proposal that is so convenient, there must be many ways in which it could be used. To me, this smells like an attempt to introduce business logic into your templates, which is something Django discourages. A clear use case that demonstrates otherwise might help to counter this argument; absent of such an example, I'm -1 to this as well.
