I have some VERY old discussions with George about this code. What I can't remember, however, is whether or not the original UNMAP drop I got from Nexenta had this bit in it or not. It's distinctly possible I inherited this fragment, instead of writing it.
Ahhh, I think I get it. This code existed BEFORE George told me to commit these operations to the ZIL. (Adding ZIL support was a George review-comment.) I may have missed the need to fix this code from txg_wait_synced() to zil_commit(). The discussions about this are on the illumos developer list from February of 2011 (i.e. my first month at Nexenta).
