Oh well,
seems that I asked a similar question 6 years ago, and it came out that
csync was needed for the experimental backup feature.
Now please disregard that experimental backup feature, as it's said to
be deprecated. I now want to setup an "ordinary" rolling replication.
So I added another channel to my master server, installed a vanilla host
with cyrus-imapd as replication target and configured it to only start
an imapd process, but no sync_server.
When running sync_client on the master server the client can connect and
login to the replication slave via imap but will drop the connection
once it sees the capability banner, which is missing "X-REPLICATION".
If I start the sync_server on the replication slave and set
xxx_sync_port to "csync" everything runs fine.
