Thanks for that! The fixes for the original linking problems are now on the master, 3.4 and 3.2 branches. They're included in 3.4.0-rc1 (released a couple of days ago), and will be in the next 3.2 release (whenever that happens).
I've had a look at the -Werror output and started making some progress, but haven't pushed anything yet. Some of it is easy to fix properly; most of it is easy to shut up but more complex to fix properly. I'd rather not just shut things up, but fixing those ones properly might end up on a back burner somewhere, at least until our own compilers start complaining about them...
