+1 to this upgrade. It has merit on it's own but if we eventually start
factoring into microservices Akka-HTTP is a good candidate for that. This would
then serve 2 purposes: 1) upgrade existing code, 2) begin getting experience
with Akka-HTTP as a possible platform for microservice refactoring.
[~amerritt] You may want to follow this since you've done some work in this
code.
