For me, free is better than that small inconvenience for other people. For anyone else that needs it to work in all/most browsers, isn't it possible to get an SSL cert for around $20 a year? I mean, if you can afford the domain name registration and possibly webhosting or your consumer ISPs monthly fee, then another $20 isn't such a big deal.
The problem with all this "advocacy" -- and I don't mean David -- is that it drifts without restraint into commercial messages. For those who do not like those particular commercial messages, it is extremely irritating, even offensive.
Correct me if I am wrong: This group seems not to be the place to conduct low-intensity wars against others' views about security or commercialism.
I got that message from the root revocation & UI debates: no matter what we think of it, *no changes made here* seems to be the policy.
I guess that also applies to the similar questions? Correct me if I am wrong, by all means.
And, if there are no dramatic changes to be made, then advocacy also should be elsewhere, right?
Or, -- I could be very wrong of course -- in which case this is the place for advocacy. Advocacy can be evened out, we'll just ask all the other advocates to join in!?!?
