Thanks for your reply, Gerv. I view it as more than a right. I view it as a duty. In fact, I view keeping spam and off-topic postings OUT of the mailing list as my *highest* duty as list moderator. When spam gets through, I view it as a personal failure. If I cannot keep spam out of the list, I will take steps up to and including, if necessary, terminating the list. I have done that before. I was the owner of the original [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list. That list server simply had no anti-spam or other message filtering facility at all, and when spam became objectionable, and the tools available to me did not let me control it, I shut that list down and started the netscape.dev.ssl newsgroup to replace it. See > http://groups.google.com/group/netscape.dev.ssl/msg/420ee9e983fa8722?dmode=source That newsgroup was on Netscape's private news server, which was only accessible via snews (nntp-over-ssl), and was not linked to any other news server. It was FAR more spam-free than the mailing list. Later, a one-way link from that server to Google's news server was created. That group lasted from the date of its creation until it was superseded by netscape.public.mozilla.crypto, which was ultimately superseded by mozilla.dev.tech.crypto (and this mailing list) when the old Netscape.* groups became deprecated. Note that n.p.m.crypto still lives on Mozilla's news server, although it is moribund. > I would note for your info that the IT team at the Corporation are aware > of this problem, which has affected several newsgroups, and are looking > for a fix. Thanks for telling me. Is that being discussed in some newsgroup or mailing list? I'd like to follow the progress on that topic. /Nelson _______________________________________________ dev-tech-crypto mailing list [email protected] https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/dev-tech-crypto
