(Copied from bug comments:) Ubuntu is going to ship Unity-7 to make the transition easier. Also Mate is using hud and unity-gtk-module, xfce is using indicators and all (and hence various unity dependency) and xfce also prefer titlebar instead of headerbar. These patches made carefully so that it doesn't affect gnome- shell anyway.
Gnome-apps designed was designed that way only for gnome. But they also made a door if a distro wants to patch it back. (I personally, like headerbar, but I can't impose my personal choice over everyone else.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1712390 Title: nautilus ubuntu 17.10 remove libunity dependency Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I was under impression that unity is gone from main support. So what is with libunity dependency in nautilus 3.25? Version 3.24 was working fine without it. And nautilus(and probably others gnome apps) should be without those headerbar/titlebar patches. Please leave it as it is. If someone wants to use nautilus in other desktop it probably wants to use like it was meant to be(I know you could use export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME, but why force ugly, out of place title bar for gnome apps designed not to use one...
