My LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8" (along with every other LC_*), but OOo doesn't pay attention. Additionally, it is really complicated (comparatively) to actually change the default margins to 1" (the standard in the US), having to mess around with "Organize Templates" et cetera--but I shouldn't have to anyway. OOo should pay attention to the current locale and update accordingly, like every other application.
