Ubuntu Release: 26.04
Print notifications work normally after a fresh boot, but after a period
of uptime, gsd-print-notifications silently hangs or loses its
connection to CUPS.
Expected Behaviour:
When a print job is sent, a desktop notification should appear.
Actual Behaviour:
No desktop notification appears.
Diagnostic Steps Taken:
Monitored session D-Bus for org.freedesktop.Notifications. When the bug
occurs, no D-Bus messages are sent, confirming GNOME Shell is not at
fault.
Checked systemd journal. The service
org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.PrintNotifications.service shows as
active/running, meaning the process has not crashed, but is
deadlocked/hung.
AppArmor was ruled out (logs show standard cups-pdf network
restrictions, not fatal denials).
Workaround:
Restarting the daemon manually restores notifications immediately without
requiring a system reboot:
killall gsd-print-notifications
