I noticed that some other applications also do not detect events from
the pen. E.g. the terminal 'kitty' cannot be dragged by clicking the top
bar with the pen, but the gnome-terminal can. Also 'synaptic' cannot be
used with the wacom, but if I start that with `GDK_BACKEND=wayland
synaptic` then suddenly it does detect mouse events.

I'm not saying that any of these applications need to be usable with a
pen, but I just noticed and thought it might shed some light on the
issue. I think there must be some difference in these various
applications, some fully support wayland and others perhaps not yet.

Only what I do not understand is that krita was working under ubuntu
25.10 and that was using wayland as well.
