Follow-up Comment #4, bug #61269 (project denemo):
Yes, that would be much better for handling whole measure rests, it's just
that the Denemo executable program doesn't know what a whole measure rest is.
Instead it knows about a generic object (called a Denemo Directive) which
contains the LilyPond syntax that it should issue (and data to say what it
should draw on the display etc).
This generic mechanism provides a means whereby any user can write a script to
do such things as whole measure rests as well as anything else that LilyPond
can typeset, but at the expense of making a clunky interface.
