After installing Debian and upgrading to kernel 2.6.4 my system booted but the sound did not work for emu10k1. I apt-get kernel-source-2.6.4 and ran make menuconfig, selected the sound/emu10k1 drivers and drivers for my network card and USB masstorage device. Then after saving to .config I ran make;make install;make modules_install. I have grub installed and checked the parameters in menu.lst, checked the /boot directory and / links to /boot. All seemed ok. However when I boot this new kernel I get a system panic.
A plethoria of ERROR: Module xxxx *snip* ext3 disagrees about version of symbolic struct module *snip* FATAL ERROR: inserting ext3 (lib/modules/2.6.4-1-386/kernel/fs/ext3/ext3.ko) : Invalid module format *snip* mount : fs type ext3 not supported by kernel *snip* kernel Panic: Attempted to kill init! *snip* Whooha! I have re-compiled the 2.6.x kernel on other distros without this problem. I did include ext3 in the config file. What is the best way to clean this up and re-start the kernel build under Debian? now the orginal 2.6.4 kernel which did boot but no sound won't boot either. However the 2.4.25 kernel still boots. I really don't want to re-start the Debian install from scratch. Philip -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
