Hi folks I've hit a problem with my Linux installation - in that I upgraded to the 2.6 kernel from backports.org and my system hangs during boot. I installed the 2.6.2 kernel after an automatic update caused my 2.4 kernel to fail during boot with an infinate amount of "Lost Interrupt" errors on my IDE drives (all of them).
Anyhoo - having finally got a broadband connection, I decided to D/L the entire 7 CD debian installation and try a repair (or even re-install) from that - however, I need the 2.4 kernel for my additional H/W (usb support - Speedtouch ADSL modem etc.) BUT - I'm getting the same "Lost Interrupt" problems with the CD. After much searching, I believe this may be a BIOS problem (I have an ASRock K7S8X MB) - and that it is fixed with the 2.6 BIOS upgrade. But - this upgrade is beta - and not officially sanctioned. So before I risk rendering my machine (Which I've had for less than a month) unusable - and having to go for an expensive service:- i) has anyone tried the beta BIOS and were there any problems. ii) Is there a workaround for this already with upgrading the BIOS (boot params etc.) The old 2.4 kernel from backports.org worked fine - it was only after the apt-upgrade that I got problems. 2.2 boots fine, but doesn't support most of my H/W (and my primary concern now is that I need to get a working system supporting the ADSL since my normal dialup account goes offline tomorrow - and I'm not prepared to pay by the minute for 56k access to get a working system). Luckily - my Win2K installation is fine - so I can still get to stuff. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Steve. ps.
