My main concern is about users who not unsure enough. :)) > The part I found weak it is when "xorriso-dd-target" refuses to perform the > writing, notably it is not verbose: it doesn't explain why the writing > process abort, the reason. > [...] > sde : NO : usb+ has_ext4- : General UDisk > NO CANDIDATE FOR TARGET DEVICE AMONG THE GIVEN NAMES ! > Here, should explain the reason, otherwise the end user has to read the > whole documentation to discover that the USB stick must have ISOFS or VFAT > filesystem on it to perform the writing. Actually there must be no other filesystems than FAT and ISO 9660. Their presence on the USB stick is not mandatory. (Except with option -look_for_iso which overrides the presence of a rejectable filesystem by the presence of an ISO 9660.) How about this: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ... sdc : NO : usb+ has_ext4- : Intenso Ultra Line NO CANDIDATE FOR TARGET DEVICE AMONG THE GIVEN NAMES ! A suitable candidate must be a memory card or connected via USB but must not be an optical drive, floppy, loop device, RAM device or disk partition. It must not have filesystems other than FAT or ISO 9660. More reasons exist to reject a candidate. The reasons are given briefly by words which end by "-", like has_ext4- or not_usb-. See the list in man xorriso-dd-target . Overall available devices: ... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Have a nice day :) Thomas
