> Wow. I'll be damned. Learn something new everyday. It does seem to require some fine tuning; for instance, though I could establish a network connection and transfer files between the two machines via firewire/eth1394, the actual transfer speeds I was getting were about the same as what I get on my 10baseT network, which kind of defeats the point, as I was trying to transfer 15Gb of files more quickly(they should be dramatically higher, as firewire can transfer at 400Mbps, compared to 10Mbps for 10baseT). The transfers were about 1Mb/second, using Konqueror and fish:// - not much more than 10baseT, which for me runs around 800-900Kb/second. Making the connection work was pretty straightforward; it is essentially the same as setting up a direct ethernet connection between two standalone machines using a crossover cable, as described at http://www.reinvented.net/labs/article/1539, but specifying the right ethX device for the firewire port; if you have one ethernet device at eth0, the firewire device would be eth1. I am sure I could attain much higher transfer rates, but not quite sure how. B. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
