I have not really followed this thread since I don't typically transfer
files using bluetooth.

I just wanted to add that in ad-hoc situations where I haven't got SSH
set up on the mobile device (for sftp) then I tend to use the app
LocalSend for file transer over the (IP) network.

It is an open source app which is available both in the Google Play
Store and also in the F-Droid app store, at no monetary cost. You can of
course also install it on regular computers in a variety of ways:

Sadly not yet (?) packaged in Debian, but there is at least a .deb
package there, as well as a snap etc.

The app discovers other devices on the same network that are also
running the app. You select the files to transfer and have to approve it
at the receiving side. The data is encrypted over the network and it
doesn't use any third-party service. I value the simplicity.

Thanks,
Andy
