Horses for courses. If you're happy with "my system" (i.e. just one), then more power to you. But if more than one system is doing things with that data, then, again, "your system" is playing server; then, perhaps, it's a good idea to optimize the box the storage is attached directly to for its server role. More performant file systems like to be soaked in resources. ZFS, for one example, is known to enjoy RAM for breakfast (it's working with it!). Cheers -- tomás
