Hm. The only approach which occurs to me is to run the thing under
strace and watch it trying (and failing) to open an icon file; given
its path, you then might try to find a package providing that, with
apt-file search.

So for example, run the thing with

  strace -o /tmp/trace -f <yourapp>

then less /tmp/trace and search for, e.g. "icon" (in the hope that
your missing icon's paths have something like that in them), or
"images" or some such.

If the corresponding syscall is something around "open" and the result
is ENOENT, you have a candidate. Drop that path into "apt-file search"
and activate your guessing neurons :-)
