Support for the 32-bit kernel has been discontinued, but you can still
run 32-bit userland with a 64-bit kernel.
I contacted Brother support, who told me that Linux isn't officially
supported and they can't help.

Hi,
It's an i386 package, but support for this legacy architecture was dropped in
Debian Trixie.
Yes, you're using Debian Trixie, as your cups version is 2.4.10. :-)
Since the driver is not open source and property of Brother, only Brother can
rebuild it for a more recent architecture, as here: amd64
I would suggest contacting Brother to request support for an amd64 Debian
package.
Best regards,
Klaus.

I have get a Brother MFC-L3730CDN I have try to print via my central
cups server running cups 2.4.10.
So I download and installed mfcl3730cdnpdrv-1.0.2-0.i386.deb from
https://www.brother.de/support/mfc-l3730cdn/downloads
In the cups web interface I see that a testpage is send to the printer
but the printer is still in energie save mode and nothing happens.
With cups 2.4.2 it works as enpected.
Can someone reproduce the problem?
Best regards
