Hello,

Ever since I bought a replacement for a broken Logitech M500s mouse (and
I bought the very same model), my xhci_hcd bus randomly dies on boot up
with the mouse plugged in. Doesn't matter which USB port I select to
plug the mouse in. This was happening on Debian 12, and now still does
on Debian 13, to which I recently upgraded my system.

[ +0.000137] xhci_hcd 0000:08:00.0: xHCI Host Controller
[ +0.000004] xhci_hcd 0000:08:00.0: new USB bus registered, assigned
bus number 5
(...)
[ +0.011549] xhci_hcd 0000:08:00.0: Host halt failed, -110
[ +0.000002] xhci_hcd 0000:08:00.0: can't setup: -110
[ +0.000023] xhci_hcd 0000:08:00.0: USB bus 5 deregistered
[ +0.000036] xhci_hcd 0000:08:00.0: init 0000:08:00.0 fail, -110
[ +0.000014] xhci_hcd 0000:08:00.0: probe with driver xhci_hcd failed
with error -110

If the bus fails on boot, I need to log into GNOME and manually restart
it with:

echo -n "0000:08:00.0" | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/unbind
echo -n "0000:08:00.0" | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/bind

Sometimes one try is enough for the bound to be successful, sometimes I
need to rebind it again and again until it succeeds (at one point it
always will). Once it's rebound, it won't crash until the next reboot
(which again, happens on random basis). Until the bus is successfully
rebound, the mouse won't work, but all other USB devices plugged into
the motherboard do.

What might be the cause of this issue?

I have lived with this for about half a year now, but it's beginning to
really annoy me, so I would be glad for some advice in this matter.

Best regards,
AJ
