Thank you for this suggestion. It seems to have help, in combination with the fs.file-max adjustment suggested by Greg Wooledge. I note your signature says "(please don't CC me when replying to the list)" but when I reply to your email, you are in the To field, and the list is in the CC field. I'm not sure what to do with this. I decided to remove you from the To field. I hope that's correct. -k.
