This isn't a very verbose explanation of what you did. I hope you did
this:

Sent an email to debian-user-reque...@lists.debian.org with subject
    line "unsubscribe"

If you did that, that should work.

PROVIDED THAT HE EMAIL ADDRESS YOU SENT IT FROM IS ACTUALLY THE ONE
SUBSCRIBED TO THE LIST.

If, on the other hand, the address you sent it *from* is *not*
subscribed to the list, then silence is what would be expected. It won't
work.

Aain I find the above difficult to parse. What is "quux:exemple.com"? Is
it you giving an example? It would help us if you told us *exactly* what
you did, with no censoring.

The email address younare using to send this post is r...@cegetel.net.
Is that what you put in the subject line? Is that the one you sent
*from* in your first attempt?

Perhaps r...@cegetel.net is not the address you are subscribed as?
Emails can still find their way into your inbox even using different
addresses. You can check by viewing the headers of an email you received
from the list and looking for the "Envelope-To" header near the top. For
example, mine says:

Envelope-to: a...@strugglers.net

That's the address I am subscribed as, so you can find out yours that
way.

Thanks,
Andy
