I had a British Latitude D430, and I had:

  XKBMODEL="latitude"
  XKBLAYOUT="gb"
  XKBVARIANT=""
  XKBOPTIONS="compose:caps,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
  BACKSPACE="guess"

after I substituted for this line:

  XKBOPTIONS="caps:none,compose:menu,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"

What language is your keyboard, what do those keys type, and where is
your pipe key?

Cheers,
