For instance, launching LibreOffice takes an age on a 5400 RPM laptop HDD, regardless of whether LVM is part of the setup. And the delta between (LO + 5400 RPM HDD) and (LO + 5400 RPM HDD + LVM) is effectively smaller than a rounding error.
